Book Review: Living the Dream: Putting Your Creativity to Work (And Getting Paid)

Earlier this year, we came to know business manager and author, Corwin Hiebert. He was working on a new book, Living the Dream: Putting Your Creativity to Work (And Getting Paid) and kindly asked us to chime in on small business accounting software. The book is now out and we’re excited to be one of the first blogs to do a review!

Living the Dream is all about helping creative folks—from small business owners to artists to designers to inventors—make a living at what they love. The goal of the book? Remove the mystery associated with starting and growing a successful creative business. Through this lens, Corwin covers how to define target markets and business offerings; how to develop a manageable business plan; how to mitigate financial and legal risk; how to build a marketing plan; how to create a web presence; and more.

And this isn’t just a how-to book. There are real world stories and examples. Living the Dream features insights from inspiring entrepreneurs like Kate Jarvis, Executive Producer of Chase Jarvis Inc., as well as subject matter experts, such as new media lawyer and trademark agent Kerry Williams. Plus, there are lots of recommendations for small business services and products, including (surprise!), cloud accounting software. Here’s what Corwin had to say about Kashoo…

Another awesome site that I’m compelled to tell you about is Kashoo Online Accounting. This web-based tool is a double-entry accounting system that follows the rules of GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles). They also have an amazing iPad app. So, for all you QuickBooks or Simply Accounting users, or wannabes, this is right up your alley. Kashoo.com takes care of invoices expense entries, and it can automatically import all your bank state- ments for that ever-enjoyable reconciliation process… it’s a full-service system… When it comes time for your accountant to take care of your tax preparation, everything is in perfect order. This makes your accountant happy and saves you money.

With that, we’ll leave you with a short video from Corwin.

(PS – If you’re in need of a few last minute holiday gifts for business partners or colleagues, perhaps Living the Dream fits the bill! Get it on Amazon here.)
